Vasileva made clear Tuesday that the investments under the operational program were of strategic importance for the country and that they would give a boost to businesses.
She said that a total of 7000 jobs had been created so far during the implementation of the operational program.
Vasileva, as cited by the BGNES news agency, said that operational program Environment would have a budget of BGN 3.5 B in the new programming period expiring in 2020.
She specified that 70% of the total, or BGN 2,340 B, would go to the water sector, BGN 198 M would be spent on protected areas and biodiversity, BGN 153 M would be allocated to flood and landslide prevention, BGN 115 M would be used to enhance air quality, and BGN 92 M would be earmarked for technical assistance under the program.
Vasileva informed that 15 calls for proposals for actions would be announced, paving the way for the implementation of projects worth over BGN 1 B.
Meanwhile, Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova stated that the Regional Development Ministry was a major beneficiary under the program with a stake of around 50%.
Pavlova emphasized that it was essential to upgrade the water supply and sewerage sector as a failure to implement the reform would endanger the absorption of the entire amount of funding under the program.
Pavlova, as cited by the Focus news agency, recommended a comprehensive approach to investments in the water sector.
