Euro-simvolBulgaria has climbed two positions in the absorption of EU funds programming period 2007-2013, shows the report on the website of the Directorate General “Regional Policy” of the European Commission, BGNES informs.

Brussels has acknowledged that the country has absorbed 82.8% of EU funds. This programming period ends in just over a month and it has emerged that the country will not absorb about 15% of European funds that it deserved in the first programming period of its membership in the EU. Most of these losses were covered by the state budget, which actually necessitated an update of the budget for 2015.

Bulgaria is near the bottom of the ranking in terms of utilization of the funds. Somewhat comforting is the fact that the Czech Republic is behind us with 82.7 percent, Malta with 81.6%, Italy with 77.4%, Slovakia with 75.4%, Croatia with 71.6% and Romania with 67.7 %. According to the latest data of DG “Regional Policy” Greece is the EU country that has absorbed the most European funds – 96.8%, followed by Estonia, Lithuania and Portugal with 95%.
